I have said forever, “that is not a today dragon, that is a dragon for another day...”
This is that but with more meaning.
We all have dragons, fire breathing fuckers that linger in the dark recesses of our personalities that tend to descend upon our currently in session life without warning or provocation.
And it feels wrong or bothersome or perhaps, at times, unfair because we stand there wondering, “Why the fuck do I seem to have so many reckless dragons to deal with?”
But everyone knows the main job of any dragon is to guard the gold. That is the whole point of dragon’s existence, to protect the castle and its treasures. So if you are on a quest, any quest really, there are going to be dragons, that is just how it is. Dragons will always wrap themselves tightly around the most precious shit...and if you want access to that stuff you are going to have to do the work, motherfucker.
So to get the gems, you are going to have to deal with a few dragons in your life. And I think the main thing to know about dragons is that they are really not there to hurt you. They are there to protect the most delicate and precious parts of you. Unfortunately (or fortunately) they tend to take their job a little too seriously and bring their full dragonness to the task at hand, with bladed armor and breaths of fire. So you are going to have to be fucking valiant to see what is being hidden in the lair.
Turns out the best stuff you have ever found is right there in those dark, dank lairs. The last place you want to go is the first place you should go looking for all the rich shit that will grow you up, and make you a more complete and decent human being. It will also allow you to really enjoy the fuck out of your life.
Turns out that confronting the dragon is the only way you are ever going to truly get the gold. And it need not be a battle with death defying near misses and swords and all that attendant King Arthur’s Court shit. No, turns out that dragons are very intelligent and reasonable. Sure, they have had to put up a pretty good fight, but that is only because the quest was not well explained or was for nefarious reasons. If you are attempting to steal the gold so that you can use or manipulate others or wage war on another’s kingdom, the dragon is obliged to attempt to stop you. But, in my experience, if you take a moment to approach the dragon, arms laid down, in a spirit of emotional amnesty and take a stab at making a decent explanation...dragons are quite reasonable mythical beasts.
When you explain you need the gold for inner growth and guidance. To better yourself so that you can in turn better your little corner of the universe, dragons and all their fiery breath, is quickly extinguished and more than happy to oblige.
How do I know?
Because my particular queendom has a fuckton of dragons. And I have continued to confront them...because I know right behind their testy and bold grandstands, is a truth, a knowledge or a piece of me that I so long ago locked away I completely forgot it was mine. But dragons never forget. They know that it is yours and you entrusted it to their care because you were recklessly, self destructively incapable of maintaining your own best interest.
So confront the dragon, and he/she shall all too willingly grant you safe passage to the gold. It is yours after all. And you questing to this place where you and the dragon stand in quiet communion about your reasons and needs, the dragon, your ultimate protector and guardian, only wants you to be happy, joyous and free. And to always get the gold...
Again...still.
